The Home Going Celebration Service for Sis. Mildred Crittenden. Mildred was a long-time member of Monroe Street Church of Christ in Chicago, IL, and worshiped at Minda Street Church of Christ when she moved to Abilene. For over 20 years she served young children and their families by providing childcare in her licensed family home. She was an avid fisherwoman and loved the great outdoors. She devoted much of her time and energy as an active member of the church. She was recently honored by the Church of Christ Ladies of Greater Chicago for being a pioneer in the Secret Sisters Ministry. This ministry started in the early seventies and now serves over 300 Christian women in the Chicagoland area. She also devoted much of her time and energy as a caregiver to family members, including her mother, brothers and sister.

Mildred was preceded in death her son George Paden, of Evanston, Ill. She is survived by her husband Norris Crittenden of 45 years and four children: Duane Paden, of Placitas, New Mexico; Charles Paden, of Indianapolis, Indiana; Earl Paden of Sacramento, California and Noreen White, of Abilene, Texas. She also is survived by over 20 grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

We will miss this great Christian woman and soldier for the Lord.

Supersize Me Lord!! PDF Print E-mail
Wednesday, 27 January 2010 12:37

Jude 1:3 Beloved, when I gave all diligence to write unto you of the common salvation, it was needful for me to write unto you, and exhort you that ye should earnestly contend for the faith which was once delivered unto the saints.

Don’t you love New Year’s resolutions? Every year this time, we start jogging and getting rid of the belly that we’ve grown over the past year. This year it seems to be a little bigger and harder to lose – but hey it’s the beginning of the year and we’ve got resolution to follow through! Thinking back over the year we regret the times we ate fast food. It seems like the fast food industry makes getting overweight so easy! (Not really! We know it's our choices).....

However, do you notice when you step up to the fast food counter, how they ask you, “Would you like to supersize it?” What are they saying? “Now that we know what you want to eat, how about a whole lot more of it !?!”

As I was thinking about this dilemma of mine, (mostly in a negative sense), I suddenly came to another realization. When we enter into His presence, God is also saying to us, “How about a deeper, more fruitful time of prayer or worship?!?”

So here’s my suggestion, let’s say “no thanks” to the fast food guy….and, “Yea, Lord, SUPERSIZE ME!!!”
